The Lady Vols track team is off to a great start competing in the Jerry B. Griffin Invitational and Desoto Nike invitational.Cross Country and track girls had a great off season focussing on getting stronger in the weight room, led by Coach Devon Campbell. We also have girls from other sports such as volleyball and basketball competing. The Lady Vols track team won the varsity division of the Jerry B. Griffin Invitational hosted by Sam Houston High School.They took first place in the 4 x 200 (Treva Ray, Mya Wells, Jaquisha Bell, Jazmine Simmons) and 4 x 400 (Treva Ray, Carli McDonald, Mya Wells, Naysia Dildy) relays; Treva Ray took first in the long jump with Carli McDonald finishing second. Mya Wells finished second in the 200 meters; Carli McDonald took first in the 400 meters with Naysia Dildy finishing second; Emily Knight finished second in both the 1600 and 3200 meters. Other varsity athletes are Jasmine Williams (100m/300m hurdles) and Chasity Ndu (Shot/discus). Our junior varsity team finished third in the overall meet. Team members are Adrena Alvarado, Lexi Jackson, Kaye Buchanan, Daizja Martinez, An Nguyen, Annisa Rutleedge, Kennedy Keys and Jade Thornton. The Lady Vols also competed well in the Desoto Nike Invitational last weekend. Their next competition will be the Longhorn Legacy Invitational in Cedar Hill.
